Raffles follows reopening of Singapore property with relaunch of Grand Hotel d'Angkor, Cambodia

Continuing the overhaul of its high-end hotel portfolio, Raffles has reopened Cambodia's Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, following a six-month refurbishment.

The property is the second flagship to receive investment, following Aedas and Alexandra Champalimaud's extensive overhaul of Raffles Singapore, which reopened in August this year.

Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, which opened in 1932, was originally designed by French architect Ernest Hébrard, who incorporated elements of Khmer architecture, art and furniture, as well as French-colonial and Art-Deco influences.

The refurbishment was aimed at refreshing the hotel while retaining this colonial charm, heritage, and architectural grandeur.

All 119 rooms and suites have been given lighter, brighter interiors, while bathrooms have rain showers and claw-foot baths with views of the hotel pool – the design of which was inspired in design and size by the ancient bathing pools of the Khmer Kings in Angkor.

The building's colonial façade has been refreshed and Hébrard's original teak and wrought iron cage elevator has been restored.

All the hotel's restaurants have been relaunched, a children's club has been added to the and an air-conditioned marquee for holding events and functions in the hotel's gardens will be added next year. The hotel also has an extensive spa and fitness area.

Accor announced the reopening of Raffles Singapore at the beginning of August after a three-phase restoration that began in February 2017 – with the hotel having first opened in 1887 and been declared a National Monument by the Singapore Government a century later in 1987.

Led by interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud and supported by Aedas, the work saw the number of suites increased from 103 to 115 spread across nine updated suite categories. The hotel's arcade was fitted with a Raffles Boutique and a variety of bespoke retail brands, while new restaurants and bars were also added. These include collaborations with collaborations with Anne-Sophie Pic, Alain Ducasse and Jereme Leung.

Christian Westbeld, general manager at Raffles Singapore said: "Raffles Singapore is one of the few remaining great 19th century hotels in the world and its restoration has been carefully designed to preserve its unique historic charm, while creating extraordinary experiences for our esteemed guests – a dedicated commitment from all of us at Raffles Singapore and also from our owner, Katara Hospitality."
