Phoenicia Malta unveils refreshing light-filled spa with suspended treatment rooms |

Local architects, AP Valletta, designed the soothing space around 16th-century fort ruins

Luxury five-star hotel The Phoenicia Malta has been upgraded with a 1,200sq m new Deep Nature Spa in the heart of Valletta, in Malta.
The Phoenicia is an architectural gem steeped in history, featuring seven and a half acres of landscaped gardens extending to the fortified city walls of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Valletta.
Combining clean modern lines with the building’s refined old stone, the spa has been realised as a bright airy space with large windows to bathe the facility in light.
Local architects, AP Valletta, designed the soothing space around 16th-century fort ruins with a concept that intends to echo the memory of ancient roman baths and showcase a blend of old and new.
They also incorporated an existing historic stone ditch into the spa and turned it into a spring water feature that guides visitors to the relaxing pool area and thermal journey cycle.
The spa features five treatment rooms – each equipped with a treatment bed from luxury Italian wellness equipment supplier, Lemi – suspended on an upper mezzanine level, above a serene swimming pool.
Complete with rustic yet refined materials including walnut timber, marble and Maltese stone, the spa also incorporates a fitness suite, studio, relaxation lounge, salt room, sauna, steamroom and multi-jet showers.
French wellness brand and consultancy Deep Nature operates the spa and offers a menu of signature massages, designed to create a highly bespoke experience for each guest using Deep Nature’s natural, mineral-based products.
Guests also have access to nail services and grooming treatments.
Earlier this year, The Phoenicia hotel debuted a new look and feel for both the brand and guest experience.
Ownership and management worked with a creative design team to curate a new brand and positioning for the hotel which celebrates the hotel’s extensive history while enhancing guest experience.
