World Building of the Year: OMA and Buro Ole Scheeren's Interlace housing development in Singapore
|
|
The industry’s most prestigious awards have been handed out at the World Architecture Festival, held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, with OMA and Buro Ole Scheeren's Interlace housing development in Singapore scooping the top prize of Building of the Year.
More than 2,000 architects from more than 60 countries attended the three-day event, which draws to a close today (Friday). Seminars and presentations by some of the world’s leading architects are central to the festival programme, as well as networking opportunities, parties and dinners on-site and across the city.
The Building of the Year was the Interlace, a "vertical village" in Singapore by OMA and Buro Ole Scheeren which won the Housing category. Judges highlighted the project for its "radical and alternative approach" to contemporary living in a tropical environment. Turenscape International's Yanweizhou Park won the Landscape of the Year award, and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) took home the award for Future Project of the Year for its Vancouver House skyscraper.
The festival brings hundreds of short-listed architects together to present their projects before a super jury that includes Lyndon Neri of Neri & Hu, Sou Foujimoto from Sou Foujimoto Architects and Kai Uwe Bergman, director at BIG.
