A new report from tourism organisation VisitScotland suggests that spa and wellness-related holidays will be one of global tourism’s biggest future trends, due to increasing disposable incomes in many countries around the world.
The new report was compiled by Dr Ian Yeoman, a scenario planner for VisitScotland.
It focuses on why non-traditional health tourism will be so important for the future and analyses the trends shaping health in society.
The report also recommends that Scotland further expands its health spa market and focuses more on men, who are a fast-growing target market.
Dr Yeoman said: “An affluent and ageing society allows consumers to refine their approach to health. The prospects for spas have never been better.”
According to the World Health Organisation, tourism and health are predicted to be two of the world’s largest industries by 2022.
