The Marriott hotel group has announced plans to extend the international rollout of its Quan spa brand.
Developed by naturopath Rhett Pickering, the first Quan opened at the Sanya Marriott China in 2004. Two more opened this year at the Renaissance Koh Samui, Thailand, and the JW Marriott Mumbai, India, the latter being the Quan flagship site.
The next Quan spa to open will be at the Renaissance Bali, with an estimated launch date of March 2007. Further sites are now scheduled to be added to Marriott properties throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Each Quan spa is adapted to its location, drawing on the architecture, healing traditions and culture for inspiration in the spa design, treatments, uniforms and colour palettes.
According to Pickering, the benchmark of the Quan experience is to offer “treatments with authenticity”, drawing on traditional healing and wellness rituals which are still “recognisable but effective”.
The colour of the Quan logo is also used to reflect local elements – in Sanya, the logo is blue to mirror the ocean while in Mumbai it is saffron, a popular local spice. Details: www.marriott.com
