RockResorts to manage Bimini Bay Resort and Marina
By Tom Walker 15 Mar 2011
Bimini Bay in the Bahamas
RockResorts, a subsidiary of Vail Resorts, has secured a deal to manage the Bimini Bay Resort and Marina in the Bahamas.

All existing resort properties at Bimini Bay – including restaurants and activities, as well as the largest deep-water marina in The Bahamas – will be managed through the company's property management collection, Legendary Lodging.

The resort, owned by the capo Group, currently comprises of 350 individually-owned existing residences, three restaurants, a shopping village, the "Beach Bums" children's activity centre and two outdoor pools.

As part of its development strategy for the site, RockResorts plans to add a boutique RockResorts hotel with 80 to 100 rooms, RockResorts branded residences, a RockResorts luxury Spa, additional restaurants, a beach club and environmental and sustainability projects.

Exact details of the spa facility are yet to be confirmed, but according to a spokesperson it could be open by Septenber 2011. The RockResorts hotel is scheduled to open sometime 2014.

Paul Toner, chief operating officer of Vail Resorts Hospitality and RockResorts International, said: "Adding Bimini Bay Resort and Marina is another important milestone in expanding the profile of RockResorts as a leading player in luxury resort management and reflects our continued interest in expanding our resort and lodging operations outside of the United States, including into desirable warm-weather locations."

Founded in 1956 by Laurance Rockefeller and acquired by Vail Resorts in 2001, RockResorts operates 27 propertes in six countries (US, Bahamas, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia and Costa Rica).

The group plans to open two more resorts this year – Balcones del Atlántico in the Dominican Republic and Alma del Pacifico in Costa Rica.
