York-based developer Grantside is set to rejuvenate the disused Terry’s chocolate factory in York, UK, into a £26m mixed-use development.
The 220,000sq ft (20,500sq m) Grade II listed site overlooking York Racecourse will feature a hotel equipped with a spa and a health club, as well as more than 400 residential apartments.
In addition, plans for a new art gallery and/or a museum are probable.
Grantside purchased the site – which is in a conservation area from Kraft Foods in January. Red Box Design Group will design the development.
The City of York Council is yet to agree on a final development brief, which is intended as a blueprint for prospective developers.
Council leader Steve Galloway said: “The council is in discussions with the involved parties over planning and other issues. We will work with the developers to create both a community that is self-sustaining and a development which is an architectural credit to the city.” Details: www.grantside.co.uk
