Infrared therapy: an integrated approach to wellbeing
By Michael Emmerson 27 Feb 2026
With Starpool's infrared radiation therapy technology, warmth is perceived at a deeper level Credit: Gaia Panozzo

In the landscape of wellness technologies, infrared therapy stands out for its controlled and mindful use of heat, designed to support the body’s natural physiological processes.

Thanks to the ability of infrared radiation to penetrate tissues, warmth is perceived at a deeper level, promoting muscle relaxation and improved circulation. Gradual perspiration also helps maintain physiological balance without placing excessive strain on the body.

This approach, combined with Starpool's technology, makes infrared therapy highly versatile and suitable for different settings where wellbeing is an integral part of the overall experience.

In advanced fitness clubs and gyms such as Virgin Active, it is integrated into training routines to support both preparation and recovery, helping improve mobility, flexibility, and body awareness.

Infrared therapy is used in professional sports as a performance-support tool – by hockey teams like the Italian club Bolzano Foxes. Prior to exercise, the gradual warming of muscles, skin and joints helps prepare the body for physical effort, while post-activity sessions support muscle recovery and training continuity.

The hospitality sector has also embraced this technology to enhance the wellness offering in spas, hotels and resorts. Infrared sessions, cabins and panels make it possible to deliver regenerative experiences that are accessible, customisable and compatible with regular use. In these locations, infrared therapy complements other heat-based wellness practices, reinforcing an integrated vision that brings together tradition, innovation and respect for the body’s natural rhythms.
