Accor Hotels has announced a NZ$22m (US$18.9m, €13.7m, £11.2m) new-build Novotel hotel in New Plymouth which is set to open in 2015 – the eighth Novotel in New Zealand.

Located in the Taranaki Region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, the 100-bedroom hotel is currently under construction.

The Novotel New Plymouth is being developed by owner, Philip Brown, who has appointed Hamilton-based Foster Construction and New Plymouth building firm ICL Construction to carry out the project.

The hotel will feature a mixture of executive and studio rooms, one-bedroom apartments and a penthouse suite as well as three food and beverage outlets, two meeting rooms, a swimming pool, gym and a day spa.

“The hotel’s opening will stimulate travel to the region from a range of sectors, particularly business and leisure travel,” said Vice President Operations for Accor New Zealand, Fiji and Japan, Garth Simmons in a statement.

“This is a key development for the Taranaki region, which will positively add to New Zealand’s hotel industry and wider community,” he said.

Once open, the hotel is expected to boost the local economy and employ approximately 70 hospitality staff.

The Novotel New Plymouth will join the seven other properties in New Zealand: one in Christchurch, Queenstown, Wellington, Rotorua, Hamilton and two in Auckland.

The Accor brand, Novotel, is a global network of 400 hotels in 60 countries.
