Conrad Maldives Rangali Island unveils refreshed overwater spa
By Megan Whitby 14 Mar 2022
Three of the spa’s treatment rooms are designed with glass floors to showcase the azure waters and reef below during face-down treatments to deeply relax guests
The Over-Water Spa at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has a new look following a multi-million dollar refurbishment project by architects Yuji Yamazaki and WATG.

Relaunched this March, the spa has been reconceptualised to inspire and reinvigorate guests’ bodies, minds and souls visiting the Maldivian resort.

Of the Over-Water Spa’s three areas – a reception, lounge area and treatment suites – the main refurbishment effort concentrated on breathing new life into the spa reception area.

The facility has also gained two new indoor and outdoor relaxation lounge areas as well as changing rooms and showers. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has worked with Oakworks to equip the facility.

To further upgrade the wellness offering, the spa has partnered with organic Japanese beauty brand Isun to revitalise the treatment menu and offer spa-goers skincare that synergises nature with advanced science.

Isun has worked with the spa team to create 17 rituals inspired by the resort’s setting, the atmosphere and guests’ desired results of a higher state of consciousness and wellbeing.

New leadership
To guide the spa on its new path, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has appointed Ida Ayu Nyoman Widiaptini as spa director.

Originally from Bali, Widiaptini brings more than 20 years of luxury spa experience to the role, having first learnt her craft at the Banyan Tree Bintan in Indonesia, before progressing to senior roles with the brand in Bahrain and Bali.

In 2011, she returned to Banyan Tree Bintan as director of spa, before making the move back to Bali with Six Senses in 2017.

Widiaptini will lead a team of 17 wellness specialists from around the world to create a diverse wellness program to further enhance the experience for guests during their stay.

She comments: “I’m thrilled to be joining Conrad Maldives Rangali Island at such an exciting time for the resort, the team and guests.

"Its pioneering approach has set the standard for luxury hospitality in the Maldives for almost 25 years, so to have the opportunity to be part of the next phase of its story is a real honour.”
