FA sets August date to re-shape qualification structures
By Matthew Campelli 28 Apr 2016
Les Howie said the new-look courses will enable coaches to 'develop, improve and learn' while enjoying their football
The Football Association (FA) has announced that it will launch revised Level One and Level Two coaching courses in August this year.

As revealed by Sports Management earlier this year, the football governing body has altered the qualifications to “address the requirements of the modern game” and to give coaches the benefit of flexible learning.

Coaches studying for Level One qualifications will now receive structured one-to-one guidance as part of their four-day course, as well as digital support. The Level Two course will last 10 days over three different blocks and has been “re-shaped” to reflect what’s required when coaching youth football.

Level Two combines content from the existing Level Two curriculum and elements of the FA Youth Award Modules One and Two.

“We know that the grassroots game already has a number of talented young players in the system, and we want to be able to increase that with more quality coaches working with them in youth football,” said Les Howie, FA head of grassroots delivery.

“However, we also know that the large majority of our grassroots coaches just want to be able to enjoy coaching their local team. Making sure they can develop, improve and learn as a coach while enjoying their football is vital. These new courses reflect our ambition to help them achieve that.”

The new qualifications will be made available from 1 August 2016.
