DSA Architecture International and AECOM collaborate to create authentic Mallorca resort for Park Hyatt

The Hyatt Hotels Corporation has officially opened its first European resort; Park Hyatt Mallorca.

The Spanish property, which is located across five hectares in the Cap Vermell Estate, is designed in the style of an authentic Mallorquín hillside village.

Buildings designed by DSA Architects International are spread across three main terraces and smaller terraces typical of traditional local agricultural settlements have also been scattered across the development, with prominent use of locally sourced Spanish stone.

The resort offers 142 guest rooms, including 16 suites, each with a private terrace.

“This opening marks a significant milestone for Hyatt and underlines our commitment to meaningful and strategic growth in this region where we know our guests are travelling,” said Peter Fulton, Hyatt’s group president for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Facilities at Park Hyatt Mallorca include a bakery, tapas bar, restaurants and landscaped poolside terrace with three pools. A central piazza with a large clock tower acts as the resort’s focal point.

The estate will also boast a country club, scheduled for completion in July 2016, with paddle ball courts, two tennis courts, an indoor heated swimming pool and outdoor pool. Meanwhile, a 2,400sq ft ballroom opening onto a traditional courtyard will open next month.

A fitness centre and a Serenitas Spa also feature. The spa has seven treatment rooms, a Himalayan salt sauna and steamrooms. There is a selection of signature spa treatments for guests using locally-inspired therapies.

An artificial stream also runs through the resort, taking the route a river would follow and creating a tranquil atmosphere.

Global infrastructure services firm AECOM completed the landscape architecture for the resort, collaborating with DSA to merge the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, so that private outdoor areas are perceived as extensions to guest rooms.

The studio have drawn on the native landscape to blend the site with the surrounding mountainous region on the north east coast of the island, and its flora and fauna. In addition to the stream and local vegetation, they added a sunken olive grove and a central 300 year-old olive tree to add authenticity to the project.

“The Park Hyatt Mallorca sensitively reflects an important part of the island’s history,” said Ashley Scott, AECOM’s principal director. “The site successfully recreates the character of charming traditional country houses set on hillsides surrounded by olive trees while incorporating the luxury amenities of the world’s finest hotels.

“Authentically detailed with the local character, the hotel is a luxury retreat that plays homage to Mallorca’s unique heritage.”
