Comfort Zone team walking charity marathon to tackle hygiene poverty and divert beauty industry waste

Team members from the UK branch of spa and skincare brand Comfort Zone are preparing to complete a 26-mile walk through London in September to raise money for the charity, Toiletries Amnesty.

The goal is to raise £5,000 (€5,954, US$6,052) to help the charity in its mission to tackle hygiene poverty while reducing waste within the beauty industry. In the last year alone, it provided access to toiletries and hygiene products to more than 2.25 million people through its work with homeless shelters and hostels, women and children’s refuges, mental health services and refugee support groups, as well as schools, colleges, prison services and community groups.

The motivation behind the fundraiser stems from Comfort Zone’s passion for sustainability and its obligation as a B Corporation (B Corp) to run a business that balances purpose with profit.

The B Corp award is only given to companies that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. This means they're legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment.

Comfort Zone team members participating in the walk include:
• Eralda Hoxha, e-retail and customer care executive.
• Nichola Galletly, trade marketing manager
• Nikki Vincent, customer care and inventory planning manager.
• Sophie Allen, account manager.
• Tracy Brasenell, UK country manager.

They will also be joined by Lucy Brialey, founder and director at The Sustainable Spa Association (SSA) – of which Toiletries Amnesty is a member.

“Having worked in the spa industry for over 25 years, I’ve seen firsthand the vast amount of products that are considered to be waste,” Brialey said, “this could be because they’re coming towards the end of shelf life, discontinued stock, unused tester samples not intended for resale or just incorrectly labelled.

“Whatever the reason, Toiletries Amnesty allows our industry to put these products to good use through donating to them to be redistributed to those experiencing hygiene poverty. Not only can these donations make a huge difference to those in need but the service also keeps many products out of landfills.”

In addition to participating in the charity walk, the SSA will be donating to the initiative.
