Work has begun on a 34,000sq ft (3,158sq m) destination spa at the Las Palomas Beach and Golf Resort in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
Set to open early next year, the Las Palomas Spa will have 20 treatment rooms, six with in-room whirlpools. It will also include a wet room with Vichy shower and a water massage room, a sauna, a steam room, a beauty salon and a retail boutique. Decléor and Natura Bisse product lines will be used.
The spa has been designed to resemble a contemporary Mexican hacienda while materials used will include stone, marble, agate, wood and cantera stone.
Treatments will utilise the latest hydrotherapy techniques and incorporate indigenous Mexican ingredients such as catus extracts, local mud and chocolate.
Spa consultant Diane Mestre has been employed by Las Palomas to conceptualise the spa design and treatment philosophy.
The resort’s managing director, Fernando Rossette, said: “Our vision for the Las Palomas Spa is to make it a destination unto itself. In designing the spa, we took our inspiration from the desert of Sonora and the Sea of Cortez. We have made every effort to ensure that our guests experience a haven of relaxation evocative of this unique place.”
