Hotel giant Hilton has revealed plans to open two new spa hotels in the popular Mexican resort city of Cancun.
The two properties – the Waldorf Astoria Cancun and the all-inclusive Hilton Cancun resort – will be located next to each other and are scheduled to open in 2021.
Developed by leisure specialist Parks Hospitality, the neighbouring properties will occupy a site covering 100 acres of Caribbean beachfront.
The 150-guestroom Waldorf Astoria Cancun will house a signature Waldorf Astoria spa, integrating Mexican healing traditions with native ingredients for its treatments.
While exact details are to be confirmed, facilities include a number of treatment rooms – including couples’ suites – a relaxation area, two plunge pools and a large health club.
Meanwhile, the Hilton Cancun resort will feature 600 guest rooms, a swimming pool complex.
Design firms SB Architects, EDSA and HBA have been appointed to create a “fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces” throughout the two properties.
The openings are part of Hilton’s plans to become the market leader in luxury hotel operations in Mexico.
Hilton currently has a portfolio of more than 100 hotels and resorts in Latin America – of which more than 50 are in Mexico.
The company is actively pursuing additional Latin American growth opportunities and currently has a pipeline of more than 70 hotels throughout the region, including nearly 30 projects in Mexico.
This year, Hilton has opened seven hotels across four brands in the country, including the in-market debut of the Conrad Hotels & Resorts brand in San Luis Potosi.
"More than half of our Latin America portfolio is now located in Mexico," said Juan Corvinos, vice president, development, Latin America and the Caribbean, Hilton.
"Representing our luxury and upscale brands, Waldorf Astoria Cancun and Hilton Cancun will offer guests a taste of Mexican culture fused with Waldorf Astoria's uncompromising sophistication and Hilton hospitality."
