He has not yet outlined his future plans but has told Spa Business he may pursue other opportunities within the wellness industry
Jeremy McCarthy has announced his departure from Mandarin Oriental, where he has been group director of leisure, spa and wellness for more than 11 years. He will leave the company on 31 August.
McCarthy originally joined Mandarin Oriental
in 2014 as group director of spa, before his role evolved to group director of spa and wellness – and then wellness across all hotel touchpoints.
He told
Spa Business, "What an incredible opportunity it has been to shepherd the evolution of Mandarin Oriental's wellness and leisure strategies for more than a decade.
"I'm proud of what we’ve accomplished and excited to see the future of what this group will become as it goes from strength to strength," he added. "I will forever be a fan of Mandarin Oriental."
He has created guestroom wellness videos and internal corporate wellness programmes for colleagues as well as those for external businesses, including the introduction of Mindful Meetings.
In 2023, McCarthy became group director of leisure, spa and wellness to focus on the group’s resort strategy, family programming and leisure experiences.
When he joined the company, Mandarin Oriental had fewer than 30 hotels in operation and 12 in development. The group has since expanded to encompass 44 hotels, 12 residences and 26 exclusive homes in 27 countries and territories with many more projects under development, following the group’s long-term
strategic alliance with The Oberoi Group, established in 2020.
His other achievements include the group’s participation in the annual celebration of
Global Wellness Day and the introduction and enhancement of visiting practitioner programmes.
McCarthy has also rolled out digital detox retreats and treatments, an initiative to combat sedentary lifestyles called
Intelligent Movement and a series of programmes to help guests build inner and outer strength.
McCarthy has not yet outlined his future plans.
