Private wellness retreat – Here Maldives – to open with astronomy-inspired interiors by Muza Lab

A private luxury retreat – called Here, Maldives – will open in December this year, set across two natural islands in the Baa Atoll called Somewhere and Nowhere.

The property is owned by a family-run hospitality investment company called Seaside Collection, which specialises in hotels and river cruises in Germany, Spain and the Maldives.

The retreat has been designed by architects KulörGroup to maximise the narrow islands’ footprints. The design embraces the restricted shape of the islands by creating nine tall, linear villas stretching the entire width of the available land.

On the 14,600sq m island called Somewhere, there will be five three-bedroom villas and two four-bedroom villas. On 8,300sq m Nowhere, there will be an over-water three-bedroom villa and a presidential five-bedroom villa. Nowhere’s accommodation is designed for 24 adults in total and will be available for exclusive hire.

Guests will be able to enjoy both sunrise and sunset from the villas, while also benefiting from a blend of lush jungle canopy and the turquoise waters of the Maldives.

Interiors for the property are by Inge Moore and Nathan Hutchins of Muza Lab.

Moore told Spa Business, “Far from the light pollution of the big cities, the Maldives offers a special vantage for astronomy and so we’ve taken great inspiration from celestial objects and the cosmos for this exciting development. Here will be a place where histories, crafts and cultures are brought together and then fused into tangible stories.

“To complement our approach, we’ll be adding thoughtful detail and depth with textural interiors such as natural carved timbers, stone and marble, which all nod to Maldivian local treasures like the dhoni boats and the Feyli sarongs,” Moore added. “Working on a property that shoulders both land and sea has given us limitless opportunities for design, providing subtle elegance infused with a hint of playful charm.”

Fehi Wellness

On Nowhere island, the property’s Fehi Wellness has one double treatment room, a steamroom, sauna and plunge pools.

Fehi, which takes its name from the local Dhivehi word for “green”, also has a yoga pavilion and a gym.

According to a spokesperson for the resort, the concept for the wellness facilities is based on the principle of duality: “Fehi aims to create an experience that connects the relationship between mindful movement with both physical and holistic experiences, as well as traditional healing practices. By believing that everything is interconnected and interdependent, it reminds us that everything in the natural world, including human beings, is beautifully linked and relies on one another for survival and well-being.

Treatments will include traditional therapies and the use of cutting-edge technologies. For example, heated salt stone and cold jade nephrite stone massage will be on offer, as will aquatic plantar reflexology.

Natura Bissé products will be in use at the spa.

Each residence will have a designated "Roohu" (butler), curating guests’ wellness experiences.

Other experiences

Located in a UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve, guests will be able to snorkel and dive to see the area’s abundant sea life.

The property will have a restaurant and bar called Safar, meaning “journey”, with resident chefs creating bespoke culinary experiences from picnics and barbecues to fine dining.

Amenities at the neighbouring property Finolhu Baa Atoll will also be available to guests of Here.
