The Chancery Rosewood has opened its doors, revealing the luxury hotel and Asaya Spa that took four years to develop inside the former US Embassy in London’s Mayfair district, UK.

Redeveloped by Qatari Diar Europe LLP, the Grade II-listed property has been reimagined by David Chipperfield and David Chipperfield Architects. It was originally designed in 1960 by Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen.

The interior design has been transformed by Joseph Dirand into 114 suites, as well as eight bars and restaurants. Sleek lines and plush textures have been paired with a colour palette of warm tones and gold anodised aluminium accents. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the suites bathe the interiors with natural light.

The gilded eagle sculpture with a wingspan of 11 metres is one of many historical features that have been retained. Designed by Theodor Roszak and crafted from B-52 bomber aircraft aluminium, it continues to perch above the building’s Portland stone façade.

London-based art consultancy, Cramer and Bell, has curated 700 pieces of art – each of which speaks to the history of the property. These include commissioned pieces from artists such as American surrealist Anthony Grace, who has created 278 collages relating to US landmarks, past Presidents and the design achievements of Eero Saarinen.

Asaya Spa and wellness facilities

The 1,119sq m subterranean Asaya Spa has been designed by Yabu Pushelberg and is open all week between 8am and 9pm.

It has five treatment rooms, a sauna, steamroom, relaxation areas and a 25-metre swimming pool.

Treatments in the spa will be delivered using skincare products and protocols by EviDenS de Beauté, MoodsPro. Aesthetics/cosmetology therapies will be on offer at what Rosewood is calling the first hotel clinic of its kind - The Taktouk Clinic at The Chancery Rosewood.

There is also a separate fitness centre, with the new Technogym Reformer Pilates range and the Artis Luxury equipment. This facility is open 24/7.

Tiered memberships are available at Asaya Spa, providing access to the facilities, complimentary fitness assessments by celebrity trainer Matt Roberts and a selection of complimentary massages and facials.

Members will have preferential rates at the in-house dermatology and cosmetics Taktouk Clinic, priority access to sessions led by visiting practitioners, members' events and room rates.

Magdy Abdelaty, director of wellness at The Chancery Rosewood, told Spa Business, “It has been a privilege to oversee the development of Asaya Spa at The Chancery Rosewood and I’m thrilled to now open our doors to London and indeed the world.

"We offer unparalleled experiences in a truly luxurious and state-of-the-art space," Abdelaty added. "Our concept offers a sophisticated, holistic wellness journey for body and mind, where pioneering science meets traditional practices. We provide a restorative, subterranean sanctuary that welcomes guests, members and visitors alike, alongside a dedicated spa retail space showcasing our incredible brand partners – many of which are debuting with, and exclusive to Asaya Spa at The Chancery Rosewood.”

Taktouk Clinic treatments

The Taktouk Clinic at The Chancery Rosewood provides advanced dermatological and aesthetic expertise.

Led by Dr Wassim Taktouk, this will be the first time Taktouk has made his protocols available outside his Knightsbridge clinic.

The clinical menu will be complemented by targeted treatments using SkinCeuticals’ protocols.

Hotel guests and Taktouk’s existing clients will have access to four new facials, designed for The Chancery Rosewood:

• The Signature Glacé Facial will combine exfoliation, a cupping massage, LED technology and SkinCeuticals cleansing and hydrating protocols. The 90-minute therapy costs £400 (US$540, €460).

• Ultherapy Prime – a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment will use ultrasound to boost collagen and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Rosewood says a single treatment lifts and sculpts the face, neck and décolletage, delivering results that can last longer than a year. The 90-minute therapy costs £3,000 (US$4,050, €3,450).

• Cellu M6 Infinity – this device will offer guests targeted facial treatments for anti-ageing protocols, hydration and preventative therapies. Body treatments using this device provide lymphatic drainage and deep tissue recovery. It can also be used for relaxation and stress reduction. This device offers a range of options, durations (from 30-90 minutes) and prices, from £250-£450 (US$340-US$610, €290-€520).

• Thermage FLX – a non-invasive skin rejuvenation and tightening procedure for the face and body. This treatment smooths periorbital wrinkles (deeper lines around the eye socket) and rhytids (finer lines and minor creases). It can be used on the body as well as the face. The 90-minute therapy costs £3,000 (US$4,050, €3,450).

A Rosewood IV drip designed to address jet lag, muscle recovery, sleep and skin radiance concerns is also listed on the menu, worth £400 (US$540, €460) for 60 minutes.

The clinic also offers aesthetic injectables, such as anti-wrinkle infusions, dermal fillers and a collagen regeneration biostimulator Juläine.

MoodsPro treatments

Neuroaromatics spa brand MoodsPro debuts the Asaya Spa, exclusively available in London at this location.

Moods was co-founded by beauty executives Gregory Allen and Daniel Smith in April this year with a range of essential oil blends that have been formulated for their functional effects.

The results of tests conducted by the University of Northumbria’s department of psychology show Moods’ eight signature blends can lower cortisol levels, decrease fatigue, increase brain activity, reduce social anxiety and allow for faster heart rate recovery.

MoodsPro is the next chapter for the Moods brand and has allowed the company to combine its products with targeted massage protocols and sound therapy. Guests who book a MoodsPro therapy also take home a roll-on essential oil MoodRoller, included in the price of the treatment.

There are five MoodsPro Enhanced Rituals available at the Asaya Spa. These are performed while guests experience complementary percussive and vibrational therapies via equipment by Therabody, including the Theragun Pro, Jetboots and Theracup.

• The brand’s signature treatment, the Neurofusion Treatment Massage, targets the muscular and nervous systems for a personalised multisensory experience. The protocol lasts 90 minutes and costs £325 (US$440, €375).

• The Chill Sleep Management and Relaxation Massage – This treatment focuses on soothing the nervous system with light lymphatic strokes. The 90-minute treatment costs £325 (US$440, €375); and the 120-minute treatment costs £430 (US$580, €495).

• The Fit Performance and Muscular Recovery Massage – Mobility is targeted during this hot stone massage to speed up recovery and boost physical performance. The 90-minute treatment costs £325 (US$440, €375) and the 120-minute treatment costs £430 (US$580, €495).

• The Euphoric Time Zone Reset Massage – The lymphatic massage is focused on the upper body during this therapy and is designed to relieve the effects of fatigue. The 90-minute treatment costs £350 (US$475, €410) and the 120-minute treatment costs £440 (US$595, €505).

• The Found Spiritual Grounding and Release Massage – This grounding ritual uses pressure-point and cranial massage. The 90-minute treatment costs £350 (US$475, €410) and the 120-minute treatment costs £440 (US$595, €505).

EviDenS de Beauté treatments

Treatments on offer are by EviDenS de Beauté, which blends French cosmetic technology with traditional Japanese massage techniques to provide lifting, contouring effects and boost circulation.

EviDenS de Beauté offers a range of face ceremonies, which range in duration from 60 to 90 minutes and in price from £250-£450 (US$340-US$610, €290-€520).

Two signature face ceremonies have been created exclusively for the Asaya Spa.

• The first is The Chancery Rosewood Signature Extreme Facial, which lasts 105 minutes and costs £550 (US$740, €635). This uses the brand's anti-ageing and lifting formula from its Extreme Saho range, three masks, as well as a tool created exclusively for the partnership. The ritual includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, mild enzymatic peeling and traditional Japanese facial massage techniques for the scalp, hands and arms.

• The second signature treatment is The Asaya by EviDenS de Beauté Ultimate Sculpting Facial – lasting 90 minutes, with a price tag of £470 (US$635, €545). The same exclusive facial sculpting tool is used to lift and define facial contours during this ceremony. The property recommends this therapy for guests who want to reduce facial tension, detoxify the skin, even skin tone and lift the face.

Some higher price services are also available, such as a £1,000 (US$1,350, €1,150) EviDenS de Beauté Full Face and Body Journey that lasts 180 minutes. It involves deep cleansing, diamond microdermabrasion, oxygen therapy, massage and an enzymatic body peel.
