International celebrations of wellness have proliferated this year, so we're taking a look at the ways wellbeing is being offered to the public around the world.

BBC Wellbeing Week

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) launched a Wellbeing Week that ran between 10-16 May. Across its media services (TV, iPlayer, radio and online) the corporation shone a light on mental health and emotional wellbeing.

The theme for the week was focused on connection, sharing and community.

Content inspired by the themes included a documentary called Change Your Mind, Change Your Life which follows people’s journeys through therapy, soothing musical programming and heartfelt conversations about the transformative power of talking, listening and connecting.

Global Wellness Day

On 14 June, celebrations took place for the fourteenth annual Global Wellness Day – where it all began.

Hotel, spa, fitness and wellbeing businesses offered free wellness-related activities to members of the public around the world.

Hotel groups that took part included Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, Accor, Four Seasons, Shangri-La, Hilton, IHG, Chiva-Som International, Jumeirah and many more. Other brands that shared their support included Biologique Recherche, Davines Group, Global Wellness Summit, Garmin and Kerstin Florian International.

Founded by Belgin Aksoy in 2012 as a not-for-profit movement to democratise wellbeing, the event has made movement, health check-ups, mindfulness and connection with the community available to people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it.

"When I first dreamed of Global Wellness Day in 2012, I never imagined how far one simple idea could travel," says Aksoy.

"After facing my own health challenges, I felt a deep desire to create a reminder – not just for myself, but for everyone – that taking care
of our wellbeing is the most precious gift we can give ourselves. And so, Global Wellness Day was born from my heart, with a single message: “One day can change your whole life.”

Read more about this year’s celebrations and Belgin’s thoughts on the evolution of her campaign in our Global Wellness Day-celebration edition of Spa Business insider here.

Next year’s Global Wellness Day is scheduled for 13 June 2026.

World Wellbeing Week

World Wellbeing Week was celebrated between 24-30 June.

This annual awareness event that was founded in 2019 by Beverley Le Cuirot, a leader in the finance, care, culture and arts sectors.

The event attracts individuals from all over the world, encouraging individuals, workplaces and communities to prioritise and celebrate wellbeing. It’s not a formal event with a single organiser but a collective effort supported by various organisations, governments, schools, hospitals and charities.

In 2022 a sister event was created called World Wellbeing at Work Week – in November. This has evolved into a platform that provides consultancy services to organisations with a focus on employee and workplace wellbeing. Consultancy is delivered by Wellbeing World, a network of international organisations offering support to providers of wellbeing services.

Wellness Week in the Americas

Coinciding with Caribbean Wellness Day on 13th September, World Wellness Week in the Americas will be held between 13-19 September this year.

The campaign is organised by the Pan American Health Organisation – the specialist regional health agency for the World Health Organisation.

The aim of the event is to promote and reinforce a positive perception of health across all territories in the Americas.

The theme for 2025 has not yet been confirmed but last year the organisers focused on encouraging social cohesion.

It aimed to highlight the importance of community engagement as a social determinant of health. Organisers called on countries and legislators to promote public policies to strengthen more equitable and supportive societies. They also advocated for social participation in the creation of such policies, with special attention to be paid to the views of vulnerable groups.

World Wellness Weekend

Between 19-21 September this year, World Wellness Weekend will see more than 10,000 venues in 160 countries offer free activities to inspire people to engage in more healthy habits.

World Wellness Weekend is a not-for-profit event and takes place in September to highlight that individuals need not wait until January to make resolutions to live a healthier life. This year will mark the ninth edition of the event.

Organised by Jean-Guy de Gabriac, CEO of spa advisory and education organisation Tip Touch International, the event is inspired by five pillars of wellness: sleep, nutrition, movement, mindfulness and a sense of purpose.

Activities offered in conjunction with the event are free for the publci, with the weekend sponsored by organisations in the wellness sector, including Biologique Recherche, Lemi, Matrix, BBSpa, Fashionizer, Salt Chamber, Milano Software, Vagheggi Phytocosmetics, WithU, Endurance Zone and others.

Operators organising free activities for September include Banyan Tree, Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott International, Six Senses, Sofitel and more.

The event’s website has an interactive map to allow individuals to find events near them.

De Gabriac said, “World Wellness Weekend is intended to be a way for people around the world to meet the United Nations sustainable development goal established in 2015, to promote ‘wellness for all’. This means offering wellness activities not just for clients, but also by nurturing a culture of wellness for colleagues in the workplace and providing underserved communities with a chance to enhance their wellbeing too.”
