MCCM develops mobile skin diagnosis tool
By Kate Corney 17 Mar 2016
MCCM has created a skin diagnosis tool Credit: MCCM
MCCM Medical Spa – the aesthetic medical spa brand owned by leading medispa equipment and skincare manufacturer Mesosystem – has developed a mobile skin diagnosis tool. This technology enables spa staff to make customised treatment recommendations for individual customers and encourages repeat visits to the spa for checkups.

Using WiFi, this streamline portable scanner enables spa practitioners to compare a client’s skin complaint with images of the same complaint – to evaluate the most effective treatment.

This new piece of technology enables spa therapists to compare the skin’s moisture levels, pore visibility, acne severity, melanin levels, wrinkle depth and skin sensitivity.

Filipa Baptista, international account manager at MCCM, said: “We believe that in order to achieve the best results for a customer, one of the most important things is to make the right diagnosis. For such high standard procedures, our sophisticated and advanced technology empowers the therapist to make the correct diagnosis before suggesting a personalised treatment.”

Easily charged via a connecting battery cradle, the device is easy to handle – weighing only 120g. The scanner’s high magnification lens zooms in on a customer’s skin to capture high resolution images for analysis.

Using an app, which is compatible with Android, Windows and Mac iOS, the scanner connects to smartphones, tablets or PCs to record client information – making it easy to update the next time a customer comes for a treatment.

Ricardo Carvalho, training manager at MCCM, said: "This software acts as an important tool to reinforce retail sales and to encourage treatment followup procedures by prompting the therapist."

By simply turning on the device and changing the mode to one of the diagnosis options, it is then easy to record an image that the software analyses to produce a result. This result appears in a graph format to show the client’s skin status compared to the average skin of someone the same age.

For example, the analysis of a customer’s skin moisture levels is shown on two graphs – one for hydration and one for elasticity. The customer’s results are located on two charts, comparable to average skin moisture levels, which decrease with age. These results allow therapists to select a bespoke curative solution to meet that client’s needs.

By taking images of the client’s skin in the device’s remaining five different modes, a pentagon chart is created – showing the severity of any skin issues and thus the level of treatment required. Mild problems remain in the centre of the pentagon, while more severe skin issues stretch out to the point of the pentagon that needs a remedy.

Mesosystem – originally founded in 2006 – is now a market leader in the field of aesthetic medicine and medical cosmetics. The company is constantly innovating to deliver effective, detectable and safe results.

Dedicated to ongoing research, Mesosystem’s international spa brand – MCCM – has the know- how, technology and capacity to develop products that suit the market’s needs.

MCCM partners with hotels and spas worldwide to offer professional high performance skincare ranges for the face and body. Together with spa protocols, MCCM offers retail ranges and a number of innovative technical systems designed to help spas perform effective cosmetic programmes.
